Sant Adrià de Besòs Waste-to-Energy Plant

The Sant Adrià de Besòs Waste-to-Energy Plant (PVE) is a facility that carries out the process of minimising the volume of waste via an incineration process. Energy produced from this incineration is used to generate steam and electricity.

The material that these processes create then receive different treatment depending on their characteristics.

  • Incineration capacity per line: 14.5 tonnes/hour
  • Type of furnace: sliding grate
  • Average combustion temperature: 900 °C
  • Turbo-alternators: 2 (1 ALSTOM/JEUMONT: 26 MW & 1 KKK: 5.5 MW)
  • Vapour extraction in KKK turbine: to 30 tonnes/hour of vapour supplied to DISTRICLIMA (urban heating and cooling network)
  • Combustion LCV: to 2,800 Kcal/kg
  • Type of condenser: seawater cooled pipes
  • Reactor: acid gas phase - Ca(OH)2       
  • Injection system for the retention of heavy metals, dioxins and furanes: activated carbon dosage
  • NOx reduction system: SNCR - ammonia dosage diluted to 45%
  • Gas cleansing system: Semi-dry scrubber

Environment: atmospheric emissions

The PVE Plant is equipped with a continuous monitoring system and the data it registers is monitored both in the control room and by the Direcció General de Qualitat Ambiental (DGQA).

This system ensures that emissions never exceed the limits established by current legislation.
