Use of biogas for energy

In January 2018, TERSA was commissioned by the public entity Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona to manage the Energy Plant of the controlled landfill site of Vall d'en Joan, in the municipality of Gavà.

The commission involves degassing the site and generating electricity from the biogas produced by the waste. The electricity obtained, which is fully renewable, is then sold to the grid.

In 2018, the plant generated more than 14,200 MWh of electricity, 95% of which was sold to the grid and the remainder was allocated for the plant’s own consumption.
